Registered office or business address: what is the difference?

The business address is a postal address, the registered office is the address entered in trade registration and the company register. At Heinzle Immobilien GmbH in Altach the business address costs €59, the registered office €99 a month excl. VAT, paid yearly €49 and €82.50. Both cancel monthly, we handle the post.

Both packages have the same address and the same mail handling. The difference is what you may register the address for.

Registered office or business address: what is the difference?

When is the business address enough?

  • If you only need an address for post, legal notice and invoices
  • If your private address should not appear on invoices and in your legal notice

When do you need the registered office?

  • If you found a GmbH: it usually needs a registered seat with a specific address
  • If you want to enter the address as your location in the trade registration
  • If you need the owner's declaration of consent for the notary and the company register

Before you book

  • Both packages can be cancelled to the end of any month when paid monthly; paid yearly, the term is one contract year
  • Whether the address is enough in your case is best clarified beforehand with your tax adviser or the WKO founder service. That applies to any address, not only ours.

Frequently asked

What is the difference between a business address and a registered office?

A business address is where your business post goes. A registered office is the address entered officially: in your trade registration and, for a GmbH, in the company register. A registered office carries higher expectations of reachability, which is why it costs more.

Which package do I need for a GmbH?

A GmbH usually needs a registered seat, which is the Firmensitz package: €99 a month excl. VAT, €82.50 paid yearly. As a sole proprietor you often need only a postal address, which is the business address at €59 a month excl. VAT, €49 paid yearly. Your tax adviser clarifies what applies in your case.

What does a registered office cost in Austria?

By published prices, about €59 to €140 a month excl. VAT for an address that may be entered in the company register, more with a phone service. Ask beforehand whether the provider explicitly allows its use as a seat. In Altach the business address is €59 and the registered office €99 a month, both excl. VAT and cancellable monthly.
